About the IARC Biobank

IARC Biobank Infrastructure

In the IBB, storage facilities include liquid nitrogen (LN2) tanks and freezers (-80°C, -40°C, -20°C) and fridges.

LN2 tanks (storage conditions -196°C) containing Blood products kept in plastic straws from the EPIC study and from a cohort study in Iran.

Plastics straws contain 500µl of biological material. Fourteen straws are stored in one visotube identified by its colour and there are 12 visotubes in one goblet.

Freezers contain several hundreds of thousands of samples such as tumour tissues, blood products, exfoliated cells, DNA, and urine.

There is also a dedicated room for storage at room temperature for paraffin blocks, slides, hair and nail samples and dried blood spots.
